The following diagram outlines the general process for adding videos to a course.

The process for adding videos to a course, as outlined in the following numbered steps.
  1. The course team prepares to add videos to the course. These steps can happen simultaneously.

    • The course team determines a hosting service to host the course videos. A common choice is YouTube, but the Open edX video player can also play videos hosted from other services, as long as the file has a valid MIME type (.mp4, .mpeg, .webm). See third party hosting for more details.

    • The course team creates the videos. See Video Technical Specifications for common guidance.

    • The course team obtains video transcripts.

  2. The course team uploads the videos to the third party hosting service.

  3. The course team creates video components and adds the video location to the components.

  4. The course team Add a Transcript in the video component.
